Aston Villa have been warned that Feyenoord striker Zépiqueno Redmond is not ready for such a move at this moment in his career.

Voetbal Primeur’s Done Deal podcast discuss the striker today and warn against a move to Aston Villa this summer.

18-year-old Redmond is out of contract at Feyenoord this summer and has subsequently been linked with a move away from the Dutch club.

He’s well thought of at Feyenoord after playing in their various youth ranks, with 11 goals in 22 games for the U17s, 16 in 43 for the U18s and three in 16 for the U21s.

He’s also already broken through into the first team, with two goals in nine games and 346 minutes of action so far. That includes two appearances in the Champions League.

Several Premier League sides have been credited with an interest, but Aston Villa are believed to be at the front of the queue at this moment in time.

Done Deal report that he is ‘in the spotlight’ at Villa Park and they are in pole position to secure him on a free transfer this summer.

That’s a concerning development for the three journalists, who believe Redmond is not ready to make such a step.

“It all comes early, he is not ready for that step,” they agree.

“They still want a striker so we’re comfortable he’ll be second or third striker next year. They are gnawing at him but that doesn’t seem sensible. He hasn’t made a super convincing impression at Young Feyenoord anyway. He only played when all the strikers were injured for the Champions League.

“He’s just physically very strong for his age. On other things, he really still has to develop.

“At Aston Villa, what will that look like? Would he then go into the first team or second team? It’s very hard to say. They are not going to give him a starting role; they already have Watkins there.”
