During the January transfer window, Aston Villa tried very hard to sign Gerard Deulofeu from Udinese.
The Spaniard was a reinforcement that was wanted by Unai Emery, and there was a lot of talk of a deal potentially being struck.
It never was, though, as Tottenham also got involved, only for the player to have to undergo knee surgery last in the summer, which scuppered any move, whether it be to Aston Villa or London.
The forward is now recovering, and there is a big question mark over his future, as he will need to convince physios and other clubs alike that he is fit enough for a transfer in the summer.
Mondo Udinese look at the situation on Monday, explaining that ‘the many interested teams could take a step back’ in their pursuit, all depending on how Deulofeu returns.
That’s why there’s hope for Udinese that he could stay for another season, despite that seeming unthinkable a few months ago.
However, if Aston Villa receive good feedback, then there’s a chance they could return for him, as Unai Emery has been ‘a great admirer of him’, and one who has ‘always wanted him’, dating back to when he was at Villarreal.
