Aston Villa plan
The newspaper explains that the exit market at Barça remains red-hot. The Catalans are in the process of moving several youngsters on, with one set to join Newcastle United.
And now David Oduro could be joining him in the Premier League. The plan is to move him on in a ‘strategic move’ that will see Barcelona retain 50% of his future sale rights. That will allow them to keep tabs on his sporting development.
Currently, the most advanced option is Aston Villa. Unai Emery and co plan to sign Odur this summer and then place him with French club Annecy. They are also owned by Aston Villa’s ownership and compete in Ligue 2.
However, the deal is not yet finalised as there is competition for the full-back’s signature. Portuguese side Tondela are also keen. In fact, they have sold their starting left-back to make room for him.
Oduro ready to move on
There was also an offer from Austrian club Sturm Graz earlier in the summer. At the time, Barcelona decided to halt a sale, waiting to see how the squad and market developed.
They have since decided that the left-back position is well covered and are now open to a sale. That has accelerated Oduro’s departure. The player, for his part, wants to leave in search of new challenges in a high division.
He has impressed in Barcelona’s youth ranks with his ‘physical power’ and the ‘impressive range’ of his left foot. But it seems there is no pathway for him to Barcelona’s first team at present.
So, the two parties are now actively looking to separate. Aston Villa are at the front of the queue and have a plan in place but will need to accept Barcelona retaining that 50% clause.
