Aston Villa are expected to ‘come forward’ with a bid for Sporting star Pedro Gonçalves, according to reports from Portugal.
Newspaper Record today features a big story saying the Villans ‘should really’ advance with an offer worth around €45m.
It’s claimed that Gonçalves, better known as Pote, has been drawing Aston Villa’s interest for a long time, with the club many times scouting him this season.
The problem is that Sporting are fine with their financial situation, and shouldn’t let the winger go unless his €80m release clause is triggered.
That’s why Aston Villa’s bid is expected to be far from enough, and will ‘certainly’ get turned down by Sporting.
Record writes it’s ‘nearly certain’ better offers will become before the end of the summer.
Aston Villa aren’t alone in the race, with the newspaper highlighting that Inter Milan are also interested in the player. Still, the Nerazzurri aren’t believed to have the same financial power as Unai Emery’s side.
Since joining Sporting in 2020, Pote has 58 goals and 34 assists in 129 appearances. He’s tied to a contract until 2026.
