Aston Villa took advantage of their latest trip to Spain to take a closer look at Sevilla’s Lucien Agoumé and initiate contact over signing him.
The Villans took part in the 15th edition of the Antonio Puerta Trophy during this international break.
On Friday, Sevilla suffered a 3-1 defeat to Aston Villa at the Estadio Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán. The Frenchman is yet to make his senior international debut and remained at the La Liga side.
Sevilla manager Luis García Plaza started the defensive midfielder in the friendly against the Europa League winners.
Agoumé initially joined the Spanish club on loan from Inter Milan in January 2024 and made his stay permanent later that year. He’s played 93 matches and seven are from this season.
Aston Villa make contact
His display against the Premier League side has convinced Unai Emery. Lucien Agoumé played 45 minutes in the friendly and Orgullo Biri states he made an impression. In fact, that’s ‘what Emery wanted to see’.
Therefore, an Aston Villa director [likely Damian Vidagany] contacted Sevilla to ask about signing the 24-year-old.
The outlet says he’s a ‘complete defensive midfielder’. They further add: ‘[He] stands out for his ball recovery, physical presence, and composure when distributing the ball. He’s not just a destroyer: he breaks lines with his dribbling, wins duels, and orchestrates play.’
Last month, Sport Witness covered a report from Spain explaining that Arsenal sent a scout to follow him. Orgullo Biri now states the Gunners, Manchester United and now the Villans have him on their agenda, with the latter making an approach.

Aston Villa told about conditions for signing
Lucien Agoumé has a contract until 2028 and his value, as per Transfermarkt, is €18m. However, the Andalusian club value him at €40m and need an offer over €30m to open negotiations.
If Unai Emery or other English clubs want to secure his services, they have to offer €30-40m to Sevilla.
He’s the ‘engine Emery wants’, and it’s unclear whether Aston Villa are willing to spend the requested fee, either in January or next summer.
The report doesn’t mention or suggest whether Agoumé is open to leaving Sevilla for the Villans.
