Arsenal have looked at Houssem Aouar in the past and despite showing an interest, the north London club were then unwilling to meet the demands set by Lyon to carry out the signing.
On March 16th, Calciomercato reported the 23-year-old will leave the Ligue 1 side after this season. It was also stated his future could either be in England or Italy, where the Gunners and Inter Milan respectively are named as his suitors.
The French club took Tetê on loan from Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk and during his presentation yesterday, Jean-Michel Aulas hinted Aouar could be sold in the next window.
“Houssem Aouar wanted to leave already last year, it couldn’t be done. He will play even more by force of circumstances. There are nine games left to allow him to stand out,” Aulas said, as quoted by Foot Sur7.
According to Foot Sur7, the France international’s performances this season have been impacted due to the failed transfer last summer.
They further add he ‘should indeed leave’ Lyon after this term and many clubs have ‘positioned themselves’ to acquire the player’s services. Among them are Mikel Arteta’s side as the report states Arsenal have watched the midfielder.
There’s no mention whether Aouar favours a move to the Emirates or any information on the fee needed to take him away from Lyon.
