Paris Saint-Germain’s players felt Arsenal believed they were ‘untouchable’ following the two leg wins over Real Madrid in the Champions League quarterfinals.

That’s according to L’Equipe, via Foot Mercato, who report on PSG’s reaction to the 1-0 win over Arsenal at the Emirates this week.

PSG ran out 1-0 winners in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final first leg on Tuesday evening, with Ousmane Dembele’s goal proving to be the difference.

It was a hugely frustrating evening for Mikel Arteta’s side, who headed into the game full of confidence after their superb performances to knock out Real Madrid in the previous round.

That had given them the belief they could see off Luis Enrique’s side too but L’Equipe reports that PSG’s players felt this was misplaced. They had felt Arsenal were ‘overconfident’ before the game and ‘felt untouchable’ after the wins over Real Madrid.

They were therefore happy to win the game, exacting revenge for the 2-0 defeat in the league phase, and bring Arsenal ‘back down to earth’.

There were no ‘scenes of overflowing joy’ in the locker room, though, more just a pleased atmosphere for a good result against an Arsenal side they had seemingly felt were acting a little arrogantly after beating Real Madrid.
