Over the past few weeks, Nottingham Forest have been working on signing Botafogo’s Igor Jesus and Jair Cunha this summer.
Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis has held talks with John Textor, the Brazilian club’s owner, to set up a move for the duo.
A week ago, Textor said Nottingham Forest are advancing to sign both the striker and Jari Cunha.

Journalist André Hernan has told UOL that the centre-back’s move to Nottingham Forest ‘may not happen’ even after the ongoing tournament in America. That’s mainly because of the player’s stance as he wants to continue at the South American club.
Botafogo invested $14m [€12.1m] to buy Jair Cunha from Santos in February. He’s played 21 games and the player believes this summer isn’t the right time to change clubs.
“Jair is a negotiation that still needs to go through stages. Botafogo are seeing Jair’s value increase a lot in this Club World Cup. He is a player who can be sold in another type of market,” he said.
“Not that Nottingham Forest market is not good, but he can play in a different category than the Premier League.
“The player himself understands that this isn’t the best time to leave and is very well adapted to Botafogo. He practically just arrived now. Botafogo paid $14m when they took him from Santos. So, this post-World Cup negotiation may not happen because of this.”
According to the reporter, Botafogo want to ‘slow down’, likely the negotiations with Nuno Espírito Santo’s side for Jair Cunha’s transfer. They seem to have come to this decision after the player decided to continue with them.
“Botafogo want to slow down, understand the player’s value could increase, even have another value to go to another market, and the player would like to stay a little longer at Botafogo,” Hernan explained.
