Coventry City’s Milan van Ewijk is unlikely to be moving to PSV Eindhoven this summer, despite claims a transfer could be on the cards.
That’s according to Soccer News, relaying information from Voetbal International journalist Marco Timmer.
PSV are desperately seeking defensive reinforcements as quickly as possible, with injuries decimating the squad and leaving them scrambling to find signings.
Players in each defensive position are wanted and Coventry’s Van Ewijk had been one name proposed in reports in the Netherlands as they seek a right back.
He’s been impressing in the Championship since arriving from Heerenveen last summer and PSV had seemingly reignited that interest, having looked at him while he was still in the Netherlands but not moved before he ended up at Coventry.
“Those involved indicate that Van Ewijk has been dropped as a name in Eindhoven, but that his arrival now seems unlikely,” Soccer News report him saying to Voetbal International.
“It is not surprising that Milan van Ewijk’s name is mentioned. PSV looked at the back during his time at SC Heerenveen but did not take action.
“Van Ewijk played almost everything in the Championship at Coventry City last season, but if PSV wants to sign him now, they will have to pay double (€9m) than if the club had signed him last season.”
Whether that means an end to all rumours of a return to the Netherlands remains to be seen, with Soccer News pointing out that Feyenoord and Ajax have also been credited with an interest in the Coventry star too.
