Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak has suggested that rumours of a move to Arsenal or talk of stalled negotiations with the Magpies are not entirely true.
Fotbol Skanalen cover comments from the striker today as he gears up for the international break, in which his country take on Slovakia and Azerbaijan in the Nations League.
He heads into the break in good form after managing three goals in three games against Chelsea, Arsenal and Nottingham Forest in the Premier League and another against Chelsea in the EFL Cup before that.
He’s been the undoubted star of the show at Newcastle since moving to St James Park in a €70m deal from Real Sociedad in August 2022.
Questions about his future have been raised in the last few weeks, though, with several of the top six thought to be keen on him and no new contract in sight.
A recent report also stated there were growing concerns among Isak’s advisors that a new contract hadn’t been agreed and shock that it wasn’t a top priority for Newcastle.
It seems Isak wants to calm matters, though, insisting rumours about the Magpies and Arsenal are just that, rumours.
“Throughout my career, I have never talked about or really commented on the move rumours during the season. There have been many such years where it has been talked about. It doesn’t affect me,” he said when directly asked about the Arsenal rumours.
“I am commenting on my situation in Newcastle, and I have never had any problem there. I am fully focused on my task there and that we will have a fantastic season. There are still great opportunities for that. I have no thoughts about anything else.”
On the claims of his representatives being frustrated with Newcastle United, he said: “The only thing I can say is that a lot of information and rumours often come out. Much of what I read is not true. So that’s about all I can say about the whole thing.”
