Brentford were left stressing over striker Igor Thiago, after he picked up a knee injury that had them thinking back to the issues with Antonio Nusa in January.
That’s at least according to the Brazilian’s agent Marcelo Beer, who admits the injury left the player’s new club sweating.
Thiago is set to join Brentford in the summer transfer window after the Bees wrapped up a €33m deal earlier this year.
That move was done behind closed doors, with the various parties agreeing a deal for the striker without any coverage in the press, a rare occurrence to say the least.
He had appeared set for a big money move to the Premier League throughout that month before Brentford discovered a knee injury during medical tests.
That saw the deal halted and a very public back and forth on the matter, before Brentford eventually elected to look elsewhere.
And it seems that affair led to some worry when it came to Thiago a month later, when he suffered a knee injury in training two months after his move to Brentford had been finalised.
“Now Thiago had a problem with his knee. Brentford didn’t like to see that happen, of course,” admitted Beer.
“And Igor himself had never had a real injury before. That caused stress for all parties. But Thiago wanted to play, because he made that promise.
“The pressure after that transfer was suddenly much greater. When he didn’t score in a few matches, journalists suddenly said that his transfer fee was much too high. That he’s not worth it. Nonsense.”
