Even if the Jonathan Calleri signing hasn’t been officially announced by West Ham, it seems it should be once the player’s Olympics schedule comes to an end, and the London club will have their striker. That is, unless anything goes wrong, as has done with Calleri in the past.
This, however, will never stop the Italian press from putting a nice story together, especially if it strikes fear into fans’ hearts.
With the departure of Gonzalo Higuain, Napoli ensured a successor with Arkadiusz Milik from Ajax Amsterdam, as well as putting renewed faith in their already present striker Manolo Gabbiadini.
The young Italian goalscorer, who stepped in successfully last season when Higuain was suspended for a couple of games, recently put four past AS Monaco in a 5-0 drubbing during preseason, and looks entirely capable of leading Maurizio Sarri’s frontline if called upon.
This ability to find the back of the net has, of course, not gone unnoticed, and Corriere dello Sport claim that West Ham have enquired about the 24 year old striker (we assume recently).
Considering Aurelio De Laurentiis’ reluctance to lose Higuain in the first place, we highly doubt he’d be happy to see Gabbiadini leave as well, unless it’s for an exorbitant fee that would, in turn, allow him to convince Inter Milan to sell Mauro Icardi.
It could all lead to a domino effect, but, to be honest, we highly doubt the first push will ever happen.
