Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has been speaking to Portuguese newspaper Expresso for their Saturday newspaper.
Asked if he’d tried to win the Premier League next season, Mourinho answered: “It is logical… and difficult, very difficult, but Manchester is Manchester. The history is amazing and I feel it’s my mission to give my best.”
Asked which club would challenge Manchester United next year, Mourinho explained that Chelsea have a squad who were champions, and have a great coach, and added: “Liverpool grow with another great coach. Arsenal, which is the prototype of stability, has the same coach for years and years in a row.”
Adding to those as challengers, Mourinho also picked out Manchester City because of the investment in their squad over the years, and said that Leicester City can’t be ruled out, especially given that they’ve kept Jamie Vardy, despite the advances of Arsenal.
Mourinho believes the Premier League more generally is now very competitive, with even smaller clubs able to spend, and refuse, big amounts of money: “All the Premier League teams have a fantastic economic potential. So in this league is possible that a newly promoted team can buy a player for €20m.”
