Galatasaray are lining up a move to sign Manchester United goalkeeper André Onana, and the Premier League side won’t create obstacles to get rid of him.

The 30-year-old left Inter Milan for the Red Devils in 2023 and had a mixed spell at Old Trafford.

Last season, he dropped further down the pecking order upon Senne Lammens’ arrival at Manchester United in September 2025. Therefore, Onana joined Trabzonspor on loan later that month.

The stopper kept six clean sheets and conceded 40 goals from 33 matches and won the Turkish Cup last season. This convinced Trabzonspor to sign him again on a fresh loan deal in the summer window.

Manchester United man not short of options

This season, the Cameroon international has conceded 12 goals and has five clean sheets after 12 matches.

Last month, Sport Witness covered a report from Turkey explaining that the Süper Lig want to make his stay permanent for less than €10m. They were planning to hold talks with the English club as soon as possible.

Trabzonspor will face competition from Galatasaray and Africa Foot cover the latest about the latter.

André Onana has featured regularly this season and put in a series of good performances. He has ‘regained his confidence’ and has also drawn the attention of the Istanbul club, who will directly compete with Trabzonspor for his signature.

Situation beneficial for Manchester United

In fact, Galatasaray have a ‘strong interest’ in the Cameroonian and are ready to start negotiations with Michael Carrick’s side.

The Old Trafford man’s contract is until 2028, and Manchester United won’t negotiate for less than €10m. Galatasaray consider this figure affordable while earlier report stated Trabzonspor want to sign him for less than this figure.

This, in theory, should favour Galatasaray, especially since the Red Devils aren’t opposing a sale. However, sources close to André Onana insists he isn’t in a rush to make a decision about his future.

Galatasaray or any other suitor keen on completing the signing, will have to first convince the former Ajax man. That remains the key to make progress in this operation.

The growing interest should benefit Manchester United, who seem to be looking to offload him permanently.
