Crystal Palace forward Christian Benteke has explained why he can perform better for his country in comparison with his club. Benteke joined Crystal Palace from Liverpool in the summer, but has struggled to make a huge impact since his arrival.

A return of nine Premier League goals so far isn’t bad, but Benteke has been prolific in the second half of the season.

Voetbal Nieuws have reported on comments Benteke made following an impressive performance in Belgium’s clash with Russia on Tuesday night. The Crystal Palace star said the scenarios with his club and country are totally different, with regards to personnel and style. Benteke believes when he plays for Belgium they dominate possession, which he thinks suits his game.

“Crystal Palace and the national team are a different framework, different players, a different style of play. With Belgium we are dominant and we have the ball. For an attacker that is the ideal conditions,” said Benteke.

During the last summer window Benteke joined Crystal Palace for a club record £27m, which could rise to £32m. The 26-year-old was brought in by former manager Alan Pardew to provide a goal threat for his team, after failing to impress Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.
