Former Tottenham Hotspur defender William Troost-Ekong has told the Belgian media his ultimate goal is to return to the Premier League. The Belgian came through Tottenham’s youth system before signing for Dutch side FC Groningen in 2013.
The central defender believes the Belgian side is a good place to be at this stage of his career, but eventually he wants to move back to England and build on his Tottenham experience.
“A top team must now suit me, my positioning is better and more complete. The challenge is to be important to this team, to get them to the play-offs and achieve European football. Eventually AA Gent has to be a good platform for a return to the Premier League, my ultimate goal,” said the former Tottenham trainee.
Troost-Ekong spent three seasons at Tottenham after joining the North London side’s academy from Fulham. The youngster never played a competitive game for Tottenham, but was a regular in their reserve team.
Since leaving White Hart Lane the player has rebuilt his career, and has been capped eight times by Nigeria
