The agent of Miguel Almirón has dismissed recent linking the Newcastle United star to Elche CF after Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund [PIF] completed the purchase of the Tyneside club earlier this month.
On Wednesday, reports in the Spanish press indicated Elche are thinking of making the 27-year-old as their star signing next summer because the Magpies’ new owners are considering to sacrifice the Paraguay international.
These claims were relayed in Almirón’s homeland, and when Versus Radio contacted his agent for an update, the representative, Daniel Campos, made it clear these reports linking his client to the La Liga side aren’t to be listened to.
“I also read it, but the truth is that it has no basis, no foundation. We know absolutely nothing, but I see it as totally unlikely,” Campos said.
It’s been widely reported the PIF will make considerable funds available to their new manager to build a squad competitive enough to challenge for silverware in the coming years.
Almirón’s representative has backed Newcastle to fight for trophies in the next 24 months. Campos made these claims when asked about the PIF’s takeover of the Premier League side.
“They can’t buy all the players at once. It took PSG three years to assemble the team. The only thing they (players) hear is versions and nothing else,” the agent explained.
“New people took over, but the new coaching staff has not yet come. Nothing more, expectations, no one has spoken with them. I think they are going to build a great base to fight in two years or so.”
