RB Leipzig chief Christopher Vivell insists Chelsea paying €175m for Erling Haaland this summer would not be a mistake on their part.
Haaland has been heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge for months, with it believed Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel is determined to add an elite-level striker to his squad.
Getting the Norwegian out of Borussia Dortmund is no easy feat, with the German side uninterested in selling and protected by a long-term contract too.
Thus, it’s believed that any side wanting to sign the striker will have to pay an astronomical fee to do so, with a price of €175m recently touted in the press.
It seems foolish to some, then, for Chelsea to pay €100 extra now, but Vivell does not think that’s the case.
“When I look at the market and see who I would spend that much money on, he would probably be one of two,” he told SportBILD.
“If you can secure him now and pay that much for him, you’re not making a mistake because he’s still so young.
“On top of that, you have him under contract for five years, and Erling is already guaranteed something then.
“If he stays injury-free, he can dominate the next ten or twelve years like Cristiano Ronaldo.”
