While Vasco da Gama slowly advance to sign Philippe Coutinho from Aston Villa, the Brazilian media has been sharing some very interesting updates on the situation.

UOL today writes that the player is accepting a salary cut to join his former club in Rio de Janeiro.

It’s said that he has better offers, and his agents would like him to stay out of Brazil, but he’s been making it clear that he wants a return to Vasco, where he grew up.

At the weekend, UOL had already claimed that Aston Villa accepted to loan Coutinho out until December 2024, including an option to buy in the deal.

Coutinho was having a loan spell at Al Duhail, but since their season is now over, he’s now free to negotiate his new destination.

Aston Villa aren’t putting any obstacles in the talks, and one of the reasons is that they’d rather see the back of Coutinho than pay upcoming money which is owed to him.

It would appear the conversations are progressing well, and it remains to be seen how much the buying option will be.
