Rennes left back Faitout Maouassa has told the French media he was shocked an offer came in from Newcastle United during the last transfer window, but he felt he wasn’t ready for such a big move.
The young defender is currently on loan with French side Nimes.
Speaking to L’Equipe, Maouassa was asked about the reported offer from Newcastle United and also Ligue 1 side Nice: “I admit, Newcastle, it shocked me. Because the Premier League is a dream for everyone. But I was not ready. I must still grow.”

Rennes president Olivier Letang confirmed they’d received a bid from the Premier League club, but a move never materialised for the 20 year old. However, the Rennes chief believed he would develop more if the remained in France and turned down Newcastle United approach.
The youngster has made three appearances for Nimes this season and he’s under contract with Rennes until June 2021.
