Chelsea are one of the clubs in the picture to sign Girona star Artem Dovbyk, according to today’s Mundo Deportivo.
The striker joined the La Liga side last summer and has enjoyed an impressive season so far. He’s scored 12 goals and registered seven assists from 21 games, and played a key role in helping Girona sit second in the table, level on points with leaders Real Madrid.
Dovbyk’s performances have caught the attention of several clubs and Chelsea would now like to join the list.
The west London club are 10th in the table and are 12 points behind Arsenal, who are in fourth spot. They would somehow have funds to bolster the squad and there’s belief the 26-year-old would help Mauricio Pochettino’s side ‘solve part of their problems’.
Chelsea aren’t in European competition and only have the EFL Cup and the FA Cup to fight for this season. Meanwhile, Girona are competing for the title and Mundo question whether it would make sense for the Ukraine international to leave them for the Blues.
The newspaper argues that a ‘dizzying offer’ from Chelsea can help Dovbyk financially but sporting wise, they cannot offer [right now] what he can achieve at Girona.
Claims elsewhere have stated Pochettino’s side have made a €40m bid for Dovbyk.
Girona co-owner Pere Guardiola has now dismissed this when speaking to the Spanish media, relayed by today’s Sport.
“We don’t have offers for anyone. There are no offers, rumours, all of them. Not for Aleix [García] from Barça or Dovbyk from Chelsea, for anyone. And we have no intention of selling to anyone either. What happens is that journalists really like the market,” he said.
