Watford youngster Jorge Cabezas has revealed how he earned his ‘Paquito’ nickname as he gears up to move to England next year.

The Hornets announced earlier this month they had reached an agreement to sign the Colombian youngster, signing him to a six-year contract at Vicarage Road.

He is set to move to Watford in July next year, becoming the latest in a long line of South American youngsters to make the move.

Gol Caracol cover his transfer today in an interview with the player, in which explains that Watford first spotted him at the Tournament of the Americas.

From there they began to follow him in games for Real Cartagena and, after the youth tournament in Toulon, he was approached.

“I have just turned 19 years old,” he told Caracol.

“My process began in Pereira with Indubolsas, from there they brought me to Cartagena and in the Copa de las Americas, I was able to show a little of what I have.

“I continued playing in the B Tournament and then I went to a microcycle with the Colombian National Team. From there they took me to Esperanzas de Toulon.”

Watford then announced a deal for the youngster earlier this month, where he will link up with another Colombian youngster Yaser Asprilla.

He’s ‘not had the chance to talk’ to his compatriot but admitted he has already started to study English to be well prepared for the switch.

And for those wondering where precisely his peculiar nickname came from, he provided an explanation.

“My grandmother watched a lot of soap operas,” he added.

“She liked a character called Paquito and she started to call me that. Later in Pereira, my employer also began to call me that, in Cartagena the same and I stayed that way.”
