Former Belgium striker Wesley Sonck has questioned Union SG striker Deniz Undav’s decision to join Brighton and Hove Albion.

Undav joined Brighton in a £6.3m deal at the end of January but has been loaned back to the Belgian club until the end of the season.

The striker’s move has come after an impressive season for him in the Jupiler Pro League, in which he’s managed 18 goals and ten assists in 25 games so far.

Indeed, the striker has been impressive overall since signing for Union in July 2020, with his current tally of 37 goals and 15 assists in 56 games.

It’s those numbers that have prompted Brighton to bring him to the club as they continue their search for the regular goalscorer that their side desperately needs.

They’ve looked to Belgian’s top flight a few times for signings but have enjoyed mix success, with some struggling to adapt to life in the Premier League.

Sonck believes Undav could follow that route, questioning whether he has the physical attributes to thrive in England’s top flight.

I have a feeling that he won’t be able to cope physically,” Walfoot report him saying to Extra Time.

“I think the level of the Premier League is too high for him. You can see it here, after 70 minutes of play.”
