Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Sasa Kalajdzic has insisted he should have been awarded a penalty for the incident with Andre Onana in the defeat to Manchester United.

The striker has been speaking on the Sky Sport Austria podcast “DAB|Der Audiobeweis” regarding various topics, including the controversial incident with Onana.

Wolves were beaten by Manchester United in the opening game of the new season on August 14th, with Raphael Varane’s header separating the two sides.

The game proved to be a frustrating one for Wolves as they created numerous chances throughout the clash but failed to take them and were ultimately punished by the Frenchman’s header.

The biggest frustration for them lay with the officials, though, who failed to hand Wolves a later penalty when Onana misjudged a jump for a cross and clashed into Kalajdzic instead.

On the face of it, it looked like a clear and obvious penalty, but one was not awarded by the officials, much to the amazement of everyone.

It’s now been confirmed that was a mistake from those in charge, with the officials confirming as much to Gary O’Neil and Howard Webb also issuing an apology.

Kalajdzic has nothing to say on that matter but admits he thinks it was obvious, and even tried to make it easier for the officials.

“At that moment I believed it was a foul,” he said.

“I had the feeling that someone had hit me in the gutter. Then I stay on the ground, and it really hurt. I tried to force people to really look at it.

“Because if what I thought and what was confirmed in the videos happened, then it’s a penalty. I’m trying not to look at it through Wolverhampton glasses, but to see whether that’s a foul or not.

“And it was a foul. The manager apologised to us after the game and that says enough.”
