The Catalan media seem to be doing their usual sales pitch for Andre Gomes, something which has happened almost every transfer window since he joined the club in 2016.
Gomes hasn’t been the success hoped for and hasn’t been able to take advantage of the chances given to him. That he’s out of the current Portugal squad, despite playing for Barcelona, displays the situation quite well.
Wolves have been pulled into the story recently which may be simply because Gomes is represented by Gestifute. It will be partly the task of Jorge Mendes’ agency to find a new club for the midfielder, and Wolves fans will know that means there’s a realistic chance of the player being offered.
Add to that the great way Ruben Neves’ career was placed firmly back on track, and 24 year old Gomes may consider a move which would have otherwise have seemed odd.
Catalan newspaper Mundo Deportivo mention Wolves again today, as they claim four offers have arrived at Barcelona for the player. They don’t go as far to say one of the offers is from Wolves, but the insinuation is that it could be.
Barcelona are looking for €35m, which is probably unreasonable, and offers on a permanent transfer have been way below that.
On a loan deal, the Spanish club would, want the club to pay all of Gomes’ €4m a year wages, a figure which may be after tax.
