Rafa Mir worked his way into Spanish hearts during the Olympics, and has become a much bigger star in the country than previously.

He signed for Wolves in 2018 after a controversial exit from Valencia. Real Madrid had been keen before Wolves so the move was seen as a good one for the Premier League club.

Unfortunately, Mir wasn’t able to convince Wolves to bet on him and loans then followed to Las Palmas, Nottingham Forest and Huesca. He scored 16 goals in 39 appearances for Huesca last season, and impressed multiple La Liga clubs.

Now he’s ‘about to sign’ for Atletico Madrid, report Mundo Deportivo. They say personal terms have been agreed for a while, and negotiations with Wolves are ‘well advanced’.

A transfer fee is put at ‘close to’ €10m, with more available in bonuses. There’s no mention of a percentage of a future fee for Wolves, and that may be something they’ll push for as things come to an end.

Despite having just finished his participation in the Olympics, it’s stated Mir is set to arrive at Atletico in the coming week and will be available for Diego Simeone immediately.
