José Mourinho has drawn up a list of players he’d like to bring to Real Madrid should he return to the club, and Wolves star Ruben Neves is reportedly one of them.
That’s according to El Desmarque, who say the Wolves midfielder has been included in a list of three players Mourinho has told Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez he would like to sign.
Mourinho is being tipped to make a return to the Bernabeu, where he managed between 2010 and 2013, with the pressure on Zinedine Zidane.
A loss to Mallorca at the weekend, while only Madrid’s first defeat of the season, was their latest disappointing result and saw them give up first place in La Liga to Barcelona.
It also increased the pressure on Zidane, with El Desmarque saying that if Real lose to Galatasaray in the Champions League, or in the Clásico against Barcelona, Pérez will make a change.
It’s claimed he’s already approved Mourinho’s return, and the website says the former Manchester United boss has asked for more than €100m to reinvent the squad.
He wants to bring in three players to help ‘change the landscape’ at the club – they are Neves from Wolves, Tottenham’s Christian Eriksen and Erling Braut Haland, of RB Salzburg.
Mourinho reportedly sees Neves as a competitor to Casemiro, while the other two are to help the team going forward.
There’s no mention of Wolves’ stance should this scenario play out but it’s easy to imagine they would not be keen to sell given Neves has been the star of the team since arriving at Molineux in 2017.
