Wolverhampton Wanderers remain locked in negotiations with Real Sociedad over striker Willian Jose, but a deal is likely to be finalised today.
That’s according to Noticias de Gipuzkoa, who confirm that the sticking point in the talks is the purchase clause the Spanish club want Wolves to pay.
Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo confirmed his club’s interest in Jose yesterday, with him pretty much assuring that a deal was nearly done and the player would be heading to Molineux.
This was quickly backed up in Spain, with AS reporting that the two clubs were close to an agreement but were apart on their valuation of the player.
Those in charge at Anoeta want to ensure they make a ‘significant income’ from the striker’s move to England and tried to make the purchase clause as high as €25m.
Wolves considered this ‘disproportionate’ and rejected it, insisting that if they were forced to pay something at the end of the loan in June, it would not be more than €20m.
They would prefer for the clause to not be mandatory but optional, so they can make an informed decision on the forward come the end of the season.
That, though, is something Sociedad are unlikely to accept, and so this is where the negotiations are currently stuck.
Fortunately for Wolves, the player has made them his ‘chosen destination’, rejecting a potential move to Atletico Madrid so he can go to the Premier League.
This works in their favour and Noticias de Gipuzkoa state that except for a ‘capital surprise’, the deal will be finalised in ‘the next few hours’, which they’ve been told by sources on both sides of the negotiations.
