Matheus Cunha ‘remains on the sidelines’ at Atlético Madrid as he ‘waits to finalise’ his move to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

That’s according to AS, who say the player should be joining Julen Lopetegui’s side sooner rather than later.

The newspaper explains that Atlético trained yesterday after a friendly with Ponferradina, with those who featured in the game working out in the gym.

The side also welcomed back players who were at the World Cup but one man who sat out was Cunha, as he is finalising a move away from the Wanda Metropolitano.

He is one of several players that Atlético want to get rid of next month as they attempt to fill a hole in their finances, which have grown due to their failure to reach the Champions League knockout stages.

He’s been heavily linked with a move to Wolves over the last few weeks and AS say he ‘waits to finalise’ that switch rather than training with the Spanish side.

According to them, Atlético believe that the transfer will not be ‘delayed for too long’ and the Brazilian will be making the move to Molineux before too long.

That should come as good news for Wolves, who know there is competition for Cunha’s signature but have seemingly won the race for the forward.
