Following West Ham United’s late attempt for the signing of Benfica star Darwin Nunez, the Portuguese media now comes up to tell what happened between the clubs on deadline day.

Newspaper Record says the Hammers’ last bid had been of €40m, plus €5m in bonuses.

When the offer was turned down, West Ham thought about improving the numbers, but that didn’t happen because of the short time they had to do it.

Darwin Nunez is currently in Uruguay with the national team, and that would require club officials to travel to South America, just like Liverpool did to sign Porto’s Luis Diaz.

Record recalls that this is the third time Benfica have turned down a move for Darwin to go the Premier League.

First were Brighton & Hove Albion last summer, then Newcastle United in December, and now West Ham.

The striker continues to be protected by a release clause worth €150m, and that’s why the Eagles are comfortable to reject all those offers, as they trust his value will be even more in the summer.
