Marko Arnautovic gave the perfect answer to his critics when Austria faced Northern Ireland in the UEFA Nations League on Friday.

The West Ham star had received some criticism during the last international break after being pictured out on the town, late at night with Bosnia’s Edin Dzeko.

Austria had earlier lost 1-0 to Bosnia, and players had been expected to either make their own way back to their clubs or take the official national squad flight.

There were suggestions Arnautovic shouldn’t be chosen to captain his country going forward, so when the forward scored the only goal of the game against Northern Ireland, he took his armband off and raised it towards the area of the stadium housing media and officials.

Austria are now set to face Copenhagen, but the West Ham player won’t be part of the squad. 12Termann and others in the country report he’s been allowed to return to the Hammers due to a ‘knee injury’.
