Argentine side River Plate continue to be one of the South America sides who get most players linked to European clubs.
Today, outlet Olé brings a story regarding Valencia’s wish to go for two stars from the Buenos Aires side: Gonzalo Montiel and Lucas Martinez Quarta.
Regarding the right-back, the newspaper claims that the La Liga club aren’t the only ones chasing him, since West Ham are still in the race for the 23-year-old.
It’s claimed that the Hammers tried to sign Montiel at the end of the January transfer window, but River Plate blocked the attempt.
Olé writes that Montiel is protected by a release clause of €20m, making him an expensive target for Valencia or whoever wants to get him. But River Plate are willing to sell some of their players soon, and would be open to negotiating his sale for a more reasonable price.
It’s recently been claimed by the Argentine media that West Ham’s first attempt was to sign Montiel on a loan deal, with an option to buy him for €10m. Still, there was some confidence that they would be successful if making a second attempt.
