West Ham United have made contact with St Louis sporting director Lutz Pfannenstiel and ‘officially enquired’ about him moving to the London Stadium.
That’s according to Sport BILD, who say an ‘official request’ has been made to the 49-year-old, but he isn’t interested in the move for the time being.
Pfannenstiel has been impressing with St. Louis in MLS, leading them to second in the Western Conference in their first season.
He’s very much the brains behind the operation, with smart transfers such as Roman Bürki (32) and midfielder Eduard Löwen helping them to take off and completely rubbish early predictions that they would finish last.
They want him to move to the club in the summer but at the moment he is blocking the offer, telling SportBILD: “It’s not an issue for me at the moment. I feel very comfortable here.”
That does not mean a change is out of the question, according to the newspaper, but with a contract that runs until 2025 there is no rush to make a decision.
He’s already been linked with a move to England after Newcastle wanted him three years ago. He instead went to America in 2020 and since then has founded a youth academy, built a stadium and training grounds as well as building a professional team.
That work has not gone unnoticed by West Ham, who are now the latest side to try and bring him to England.
