Currently with the Croatia squad in Qatar for the World Cup, West Ham United’s Nikola Vlasic earned himself that spot because of his loan in Torino.

The midfielder was sent there after his first season with the Hammers didn’t go as planned, with David Moyes never seemingly impressed by his club’s big money signing from CSKA Moscow.

This led West Ham to seek him a new home for the current season, with Torino, led by Croatian manager Ivan Juric, welcoming him with open arms on a loan with an option to buy at €15m.

He has been in fine form for the Serie A side, getting called up by his national team for the tournament, for whom he started in their opener against Morocco.

The game ended 0-0, but the West Ham man didn’t get to play all of it, coming off at half-time after picking up a calf issue during the first half.

Toro.it report on Thursday that the player will today ‘carry out tests to understand the real extended the injury’ after he ‘raised the white flag’ during the break.

They add ‘it is hoped that Vlasic has nothing serious’, but until the tests are carried out, there is no way of knowing.

Torino, down their hand, ‘remain at the window and awaits news from the Croatian medical staff’, as they hope he will ‘be able to return to play as soon as possible’.
