Lyon manager Rudi Garcia ‘appreciates’ West Ham defender Issa Diop, with the French side on the hunt for a centre back this summer.

That’s according to L’Equipe, who say the West Ham centre back is the ‘expensive’ option that the club are looking at.

The newspaper reports that Lyon boss Garcia is keen to add a centre back to his squad and they have looked at several targets since the beginning of the transfer window.

One of those was Thiago Silva when he left Paris Saint Germain on a free transfer, but he ended up going to Chelsea instead.

So, the club have looked at several other options such as Monaco’s Benoît Badiashile, Galatasaray’s Marcao, Hoffenheim’s Stefan Posch and Samuel Gigot at Spartak Moscow.

Garcia also ‘appreciates’ Diop but he is considered an ‘expensive track’ for the club to pursue, with West Ham having paid £22.5m to sign him from Toulouse in 2018 and likely to be determined to try and make that back at the least.

That’s just an assumption on our part but given Diop has three years left on his deal there would be little reason for them to offer a discount.

At the moment there’s no hint that Lyon will make a move anyway, yet the interest is there nonetheless, and this could be one to keep an eye on, particularly if there are several big-name departures from the French club before the end of the transfer window.
