Watford goalkeeper Daniel Bachmann has admitted he knew he’d be out of the picture at the club when Roy Hodgson arrived as manager.
The Austria goalkeeper finished last season as Watford’s number one and started the first four games of this campaign before being dropped in September.
He spent eight games out of the starting lineup before returning in November, starting seven of the next eight games as number one ahead of Ben Foster.
Bachmann was subsequently dropped in the middle of January when Hodgson arrived at Watford in an attempt to keep them in the Premier League.
The experienced manager instead elected to go with Foster as his number one, leaving Bachmann sat on the bench from January onwards.
That’s not an ideal situation for the 27-year-old, who is still battling to establish himself as Austria’s first-choice goalkeeper after featuring for them at the Euros.
He, though, insists he saw the situation coming and does not intend to leave Vicarage Road in the foreseeable future.
“Now, there is nothing that can shock me,” he told Krone.
“That (he would be dropped) was clear to me when Roy Hodgson became our coach. He’s known Ben Foster) for years.
“Difficult months, a lot went wrong in the whole team. I have a contract until 2024; Watford want to keep me; we feel comfortable here.
“I’ve got a taste for it. It’s an honour; I want to play many big tournaments for Austria. If not, I’ll have to think of something. The important thing is that I deliver my performance. I never buried my head in the sand, I trained strongly.”
