Earlier today, we covered an article in Calciomercato regarding AS Roma’s apparent interest in Watford’s Gerard Deulofeu.

The claim was that after finding Milan’s Suso too expensive at €30-35m, the Serie A side had turned their attention to the Spaniard, ready to offer Robin Olsen as part of the deal to try and lower the cost.

With three goalkeepers already at Vicarage Road, that was always going to be a tough sell, and some members of the Italian media seem to think a deal isn’t going to happen (don’t be too shocked).

Gazzetta dello Sport aren’t one of those, however, as they simply mention the Hornets’ star is an ‘alternative idea’ for Roma, which is also echoed by Corriere dello Sport, who try and add some hope to the whole thing by pointing out the player has the same agent as Pau Lopez, whom the Italians recently bought from Real Betis.

It’s when we reach Il Tempo that everything starts to go downhill for the Serie A club, as they are the ones claiming that after a brief ‘chat’ about Deulofeu, it was made clear Watford would not be selling.

As for Il Messaggero, they don’t even mention the Spain international.

This seems like a long shot from Roma, especially if they find Suso expensive at €30-35m, because we all know Watford aren’t going to let their winger go for anything less than that.
