Newcastle United defender Fabian Schar has backed Manchester City to beat Chelsea in the Champions League final.
The two sides are set to meet in Turkey after Chelsea booked their place on Wednesday, courtesy of a comfortable second-leg win over Real Madrid.
They followed Manchester City in securing their place in the final after Pep Guardiola’s side saw off Paris Saint Germain at the Etihad the previous evening.
It will be City’s first appearance in the Champions League final, while Chelsea will be appearing for the third time and hoping to secure a second title after their win in 2012.
Doing so will be no easy task against Guardiola and co, with Manchester City having established themselves as one of the best sides in Europe this season with impressive performances in both the Premier League and Europe.
Indeed, many believe Chelsea will be underdogs in the game, an opinion shared by Schar, who has faced both sides plenty of times during his time with Newcastle.
“They (City) are top-notch from front to back. The most unpleasant opponent, the best team in the world,” he told Blick.
“You practically never see the ball; it is difficult to get hold of the ball. And when you have it, they’ll press against you.
“And if you run after the ball for 90 minutes, at some point, you will be exhausted and then make the mistake.
“Even if they (Chelsea) show a different face under Thomas Tuchel and are defensively stable (it will be hard).”
