Newcastle United are one of the clubs chasing Atlético Junior’s Jordan Barrera for the summer window.
That’s according to Area Napoli, who mention Newcastle when covering Napoli’s interest in the 19-year-old.
Barrera starred for Colombia U20 at the 2025 South American U20 Championship earlier this year. He managed a goal and four assists from nine games as his country finished third in the tournament.
The midfielder had caught the attention of scouts from Newcastle, Napoli, FC Porto and Borussia Dortmund. Area Napoli then immediately states the ‘exchange of information’ has started, indicating the Magpies and others have already made contacts.
He doesn’t hold a European passport, and it makes it difficult for the Serie A club to sign him in the summer window. Eddie Howe’s side, on the other hand, can bring him to the UK but it isn’t clear if he can obtain a work permit.
Either way, the Colombian is expected to change clubs in the summer window for €5-6m plus a percentage on a future sale.
Barrera graduated from Atlético Junior’s academy and had a spell with their reserve team, Barranquilla FC. Operating mainly as an attacking midfielder, he managed two goals and an assist from 36 games for Barranquilla.
The youngster has been part of Atlético Junior’s first team since returning from the U20 tournament in Venezuela. He made two appearances for them so far this year.
