Claudio Bravo’s situation continues to be big news in the Chilean media.
The Manchester City goalkeeper has refused his latest national team call-up because the goalkeeping coach he asked the country to take on hasn’t been considered.
It was just the latest difficult situation for Bravo with Chile after he fell out with Arturo Vidal following Chile’s failure to qualify for the World Cup. Bravo’s wife and mother-in-law then sent social media criticism the way of some in Chile’s team and this international break was supposed to be the time for everyone to come together.
Despite the Manchester City player being Chile’s captain, he knocked back the call-up and then followed a soap opera of public words between Bravo and those in charge at the Chilean football association.
On joining up with the national team, Mauricio Isla has been asked about his teammate’s situation, and doesn’t sound too pleased.
Quoted by La Tercera, the former Juventus player said: “It’s unfortunate that non-football things hurt the team. This was the occasion for the group to continue together, work again and arrive in the best way next year to the Copa América in Brazil.
“I cannot talk about the controversy. Each one takes care of what he says. I am more thinking about what is coming now, the new recruits and the new coach.
“He made a decision, but he will have to clarify it well.”
Bravo hasn’t continued training at Manchester City despite rejecting the international call-up, instead travelling to Chile to spend time with his family.
He’s probably best keeping them away from social media.
Sometimes, you’ve got to tip your hat to the imagination.
