The masters of picking up players on free transfers when their contracts run out, Juventus are lurking again as January gets closer and closer, with Toby Alderweireld as a potential target.
This is, at least, what Tuttosport have been repeating of late, bringing it back up on Friday, as they look at the Serie A champions’ future moves on the transfer market.
They bring up Harry Kane too, although that appears to be more out of hope than anything else, making it very clear Juventus would have to sell one or two of their main forwards to be able to afford the England international.
However, as we’ve all seen over the past few years, ‘never say never’ when it comes to the Italians.
Alderweireld, on the other hand, is a far more realistic target, especially with his contract running out at the end of the 2019-20 campaign.
While there isn’t a desperate need for a new centre-back in Turin these days, Giorgio Chiellini isn’t getting any younger at 35, and there’s no guarantee he will return to his best after his recovery from a cruciate ligament rupture.
On top of that, if Alderweireld wants a quick trophy before he ends his career, Juventus is one of the few places where one is almost guaranteed every year.
Them and Paris Saint-Germain.
