The Portuguese press continues to be quite contradictory regarding Umaro Embalo’s links with Manchester United.
In case you haven’t followed the story from the beginning, we can help you. It started when newspaper Record reported the 16-year-old was being sold to the Red Devils last year.
The story vanished soon after that, probably because there wasn’t any truth in it, even though his agent Catio Balde claimed that there was interest from Manchester United.
Then RB Leipzig showed up and almost signed the player, who even travelled to Germany. The problem was that personal terms couldn’t be agreed, so he returned to Benfica.
But now we’re back to one of the lows, because when Record (yes, that first one who said the United move was done) writes about the player today, they totally ignore Manchester United.
They claim that RB Leipzig is the club who could take the youngster from Benfica this summer, and don’t mention any competition for the German side.
This makes it sound like the Manchester United interest is off, at least for now, according to the newspaper’s sources.
But we wouldn’t be surprised to see a lot more claims before the summer window. Actually, as Embalo is still 16 and hasn’t even debuted for Benfica yet, there may still be a lot more to come.
