Thomas Tuchel could find himself in line for a surprise return to Paris Saint Germain as he still looks for his next job after leaving Chelsea in September.

That’s according to RMC Sport, who say the German has admirers at PSG despite his unsuccessful spell there before moving to Chelsea in January 2021.

Tuchel was in charge of the French giants from 2018 to 2020, leading them to the Champions League final and boasting a points per game record of 2.35, the best of any club in his varied career as a manager so far.

He was sacked at the end of December in 2020, four months after their appearance in the Champions League final, after a public and bitter fall out with director of football Leonardo over recruitment at the club.

He was succeeded by Mauricio Pochettino and then Christophe Galtier, but the Frenchman currently finds himself facing the sack after a disappointing run of form.

This week’s loss to Bayern was PSG’s third straight defeat, the first time that has happened since 2011.

That has increased the belief that he is not up to the job, with the feeling that his currently a manager who is ‘groping around’ hoping to find a solution to his team’s problems.

At the moment his dismissal is not being discussed internally but defeat to Bayern again on March 8th could lead to a decision being made.

The Emir of Qatar would like to bring in Zinedine Zidane and ‘dreams’ of that appointment, having wanted the former Real Madrid boss to replace Mauricio Pochettino before going with Galtier when it wasn’t available.

There are doubts about whether they can convince him, though, and Tuchel could be the alternative as he has ‘supporters’ at the club.

They acknowledge the bitter fall out that led to his departure in 2020 and the fact he has since gone on to win the Champions League with Chelsea.

He is also free of any contract after leaving the Blues in September meaning less convoluted negotiations if they were to move for him.

A return would be something of a surprise given the nature in which he departed, but it seems the German could be on a shortlist if PSG decide to draw it up, especially with Leonardo now long gone.
