Over the summer, Southampton wanted a right-back, and one of the names on their radar was Feyenoord’s Marcus Pedersen.

It was said in early July that the Saints had made an offer to the player, and the Eredivisie side were reportedly open to selling the player.

News of Southampton’s interest also reached the player himself, who said he had never been afraid of making a step up in his career, clearly keen to express himself in the Premier League.

Well, he has played quite often for his side this season to date, making 10 appearances in the Dutch league, but there is a club keen on signing him, it seems.

Frank Stout of RJK Rijnmond reported that Bologna are taking an interest in both the Norwegian and Orkun Kökcü, and while the latter will be aiming for something higher, it’s said, relayed by FC Update, that ‘for Pedersen, a transfer can offer a solution’.

That’s because while he is playing a fair bit to date, he ‘seems to have to settle for a reserve role with a fully fit squad’, with him behind Lutsharel Geertruida in the pecking order when everyone is available.

It’s also pointed out that Southampton ‘coveted’ Pedersen over the summer, reminding readers of the Saints’ approach for the 22-year-old.

We’ll have to wait and see whether the door opens for a move, but if it does, a move for the Norway international could make some sense at St Mary’s, especially with Tiny Livramento out for the foreseeable future.
