Tottenham are ‘thinking’ of a move for Inter Milan defender Stefan de Vrij in the summer as Antonio Conte looks to bolster his defence.
That’s according to Tuttomercatoweb, who say Conte is a ‘great admirer’ of the Netherlands defender from their time together in Italy.
The centre of defence has been a problem area for Tottenham for some time, hence the move for Cristian Romero in the summer.
He arrived having been the best defender in Serie A last season but has been unable to replicate that form in London, with injuries playing their part.
A horror show in the weekend defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers further demonstrated the need for reinforcements, and De Vrij could be one of them.
According to TMW, Tottenham are ‘thinking’ of the Dutch centre-back for the summer as Cone is a ‘great admirer’ of the player.
They worked together at Inter Milan, where De Vrij made 88 appearances under Conte, and it seems the Italian is keen to reunite with him.
The defender is out of contract in 2023, so will need to renew this summer or be sold, as he’ll be free to negotiate a free transfer for that summer in January 2023.
Inter are yet to make a decision but will do so in the next few weeks, with Spurs sure to be keeping a close eye on proceedings.
