Newcastle United star Bruno Guimaraes is the Plan B for Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal if they can’t sign Bruno Fernandes from Manchester United.

That’s according to journalist Jorge Nicola, who reports that Guimaraes is the Plan B if the reported efforts for Fernandes don’t come to fruition.

Reports over the last week have linked Al-Hilal with a big money move for Bruno Fernandes, with various players getting involved in the matter and claiming a plethora of things, including Fernandes’ agents having an offer on the table.

That has been pushed back on since, with the claims very much treated as wide of the mark at this moment in time.

That’s not stopped them spreading like wildfire, though, and have been picked up on by Nicola in Brazil. It seems he has no intention of ignoring them, though, and instead reports that the Newcastle man is also on the radar.

“Oh, I also need to talk about Bruno Guimarães, the attacking midfielder who played for Atlético Paranaense and now plays for Newcastle,” he said.

“He is Al-Hilal’s plan B if the negotiation with Bruno Fernandes does not work out. The Portuguese midfielder from Manchester United is tipped to play for Jorge Jesus’ former team. If the negotiation does not happen, the attempt will be for Bruno Guimarães.”

That’s all he offers on the idea for this moment in time, so we’ll take things with a massive pinch of salt for the time being.

Even if we weren’t, we’d question the logic as it seems unlikely that Al-Hilal would want to annoy Newcastle United by trying to sign one of their stars and literal fan icon this summer.

It would be a strange thing for them to do, to say the least, and much like the Fernandes rumours, we struggle to believe them.
