Tottenham Hotspur have been in contact with Manchester City to get further details on Sporting Club de Portugal defender Pedro Porro before making a move for him.
That’s according to O Jogo, who cover Tottenham’s reported interest in the full-back today as reports in England also name them as suitors.
The newspaper explains that they had previously reported how Porro is in a ‘batch of players’ being looked at by Tottenham chief Fabio Paratici as he looks to strengthen Antonio Conte’s squad for him.
The right wing-back position is one area that needs attention and Porro is a player who has been earning admiring glances thanks to his performances in Portugal.
He has one goal and nine assists in ten games in all competitions this season and finished last season on five goals and seven assists in 35 games as well, numbers which have earned him attention.
However, one of the ‘biggest doubts’ that Spurs have about an investment is the player’s ‘physical condition’ as he has suffered several muscle injuries during his career.
Porro has spent 126 days on the treatment table for muscle related injuries since the 2018/19 season, something which is a concern for Tottenham given Conte’s high intensity style of play.
They want further information on the player before making their move and have even contacted ‘former Manchester City officials’ to get a ‘more informed opinion’ on the defender.
That has seemingly stopped them from making a move just yet, particularly as Porro has a €45m release clause that Sporting will want paying. They are open to negotiations, although it’s made clear that summer talks would be more ‘beneficial’ for the Portuguese side.
