A few days ago, a lot of Tottenham fans rolled their eyes when we covered a story about how AS Roma had allegedly turned away a €50m offer from their club for Nicolò Zaniolo.
After all, how could Spurs, who haven’t always been the biggest spenders, afford such an amount in Covid-19 times?
Well, it appears the report from Corriere dello Sport might have had some truth to it after all if you think Sky Italia is a better source.
That’s because the outlet are reporting on Thursday, via one of their journalists, Angelo Mangiante, that an ‘emissary’ from Tottenham met with AS Roma chiefs at Trigoria, their training centre.
Mourinho vuole #Zaniolo.
Oggi incontro con un emissario inglese del #Tottenham a Trigoria.
Spurs pronti con un'offerta ad aprire una trattativa ufficiale, subito stoppata dalla #Roma. Zaniolo non è in vendita per la nuova proprietà. Incedibile. @SkySport #Spurs #COYS #AsRoma— Angelo Mangiante (@angelomangiante) August 27, 2020
It’s claimed Spurs were ‘ready with an offer to open an official negotiation, but that was ‘suddenly stopped’ by the Serie A side.
Much like what Corriere dello Sport said, the AS Roma owners have no intention of letting go of Zaniolo, and have taken him off their transfer list.
In one word, he’s ‘incedibile’, or ‘unsellable’ in English.
So, it appears Tottenham came back with a second attempt (if you believe both reports) for a player they seemingly really want.
Unfortunately for them, his club aren’t interested in a sale.
