Sporting CP lost the Taca de Liga final on Saturday, with FC Porto winning 2-0 and taking the trophy home.

Prior to the match it was widely believed in Portugal that it would be Pedro Porro’s final appearance for the Lisbon club.

Tottenham have been trying to sign the fullback for much of the January window, with Sporting being clear that the London club had to match Porro’s €45m release clause.

Spurs agreed to do that a few days ago but didn’t want to pay it all in one go, which has seen the situation drag out.

Sunday’s edition of Record reports there’s a ‘verbal agreement’ between Tottenham and Sporting, and the Premier League side will pay €48m for Porro.

The newspaper believes the announcement will come in the ‘next few hours’.

To enable Sporting to get all of the money at once, Tottenham have funded a factoring effort, so a bank is giving the Lisbon side all of the money at once and Spurs are covering the expenses of that, which is how the fee reaches €48m.
