Tottenham have reached an ‘agreement in principle’ with Barcelona to sign defender Emerson Royal.
That’s according to SPORT, who say the full-back is ‘getting closer and closer’ to becoming a Tottenham player before deadline day.
According to their information, Barcelona and Tottenham are ‘already laying the groundwork’ for an agreement that would see the Brazilian full-back join Spurs for a fee of more than €23m which includes a fixed price and ‘variable payments’.
Tottenham have already received the OK from Barcelona and are currently meeting with the player’s agents in order to seal the deal.
That is despite reports over the weekend that Ronald Koeman was not keen on selling Emerson, and the player was not interested in leaving the Camp Nou either.
It seems, though, Barcelona have decided they would prefer the money than anything else and SPORT hint that is the case, stating that they will be able to put money into their ‘depleted coffers’.
Part of the fee will have to go to Real Betis, who are due 10% of the total amount of the deal with Tottenham, but despite that, it will still be a considerable profit to help a club mired in debt.
